In 1947, the British Colonial authorities in Singapore held a trial involving war crimes during the Japanese occupation. Through this, seven officers, Lieutenant General Takuma Nishimura, Lieutenant General Saburo Kawamura, Lieutenant Colonel Masayuki Oishi, Lieutenant Colonel Yoshitaka Yokata, Major Tomotatsu Jo, Major Satoru Onishi and Captain Haruji Hisamatsu were found guilty and were charged with carrying out the massacre. Kawamura and Oishi received the death penalty while the others received life sentences. However, during a subsequent trial Nishimura was convicted for his part in the Parit Sulong massacre by an Australian Military Court and hanged.

It's finally over for the Japanese Occupation in Singapore has ended, World War 2 has ended, me and my friends were jumping around with joy and shouting " THE WAR HAS ENDED ", than i realised my family in China so i wrote over to them telling them that i am safe and sound.

In August 15 1945, Emperor Hirohito gaved a recorded radio address to the Empire(Japan), He announced the surrender on the Empire of Japan to the Allies, After a several days of behind-the-scenes negotiations and fail coup d'état.

The surrender ceremony was held on September 2, aboard the United States Navy battleship HSS Missouri , at which officials from the Japanese government signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, thereby ending the hostilities in World War II.

In 6 August 1945,  The Americans dropped an Atomic bomb (little boy) down on the city of Hiroshima. But the Japanese still didnt surrender to the Americans and they withstand fighting.







Finally in 9 August 1945, The Americans dropped another Atomic bomb ( Fat Man) down on the city for Nagasaki. After the bomb was dropped, The Japanese soon surrender

When the Death Railway (Burma Railway) was completed in November 1943. Me and my friends arrived to Singapore looking like bones. We were send back to labour camps and we were still treated the same as before. We were not given enough food as we thought that we will have privillage for building the Death Railway but we were wrong. Than when we were given things to eat at some point, we were eating our food like mad peoples that were never given food like for three days.

When i was being "screened", I was being told to go through the left side and they give me a triangular mark on my arm. Then i was packed into a truck and I remember going to Changi Prison. After staying about a few days , I was taken out and I have to labour for the infamous Death Railway. When I first went in there, I thought that its gonna be a place where its the same like old last time but now as slave, not coolies. But in the end, my friends and I were in the same place and he told me that we are not getting food to eat as frequent as last time. That shocked me as I thought that this was going to be a good thing.

When Japanese first enter Singapore, they undergo operation "Sook Ching". The Japanese set up "screening centers" all over Singapore to gather and "screen" all Chinese males between 18 - 50. Some that were assume to be "anti japanese" were killed. Sometimes even some females and child were "screened". The Japanese or military police arrested those alleged to be anti-Japanese, meaning those who were singled out by informers or who were teachers, journalists, intellectuals, or even former servants of the British. All of the "anti japanese" were sent to prison, innocents who were recognized as "anti japanese" was also spend to prison. Most of the them was also executed.Those who passed the test will be given a piece of white paper bearing the word "Examined" or have a square ink mark stamp on their arm, those who failed will be given a triangle stamp.Anti Japanese were sent to killing sites with trucks and are killed in batches

13 February 1942, The Japanese reached Pasir Panjang Ridge. The Malay Regiment, led by Lieutenant Adnan bin Saidi, fought bravely. However, they were outnumbered by the Japanese soldiers and were eventually defeated. Lieutenant Adnan was first hit by the Japanese fire and later stabbed to death by the Japanese.


14 February 1942, The entire Japanese army had crossed over to Singapore. They had captured most of Singapore except the south, where the British forces were.

15 February 1941, The British Commander in Singapore, general A.E. Percival surrendered Singapore to the Japanese. The British troops were too tired to fight on. They also did not have enough fighting equipment, food and water.

9 February 1942, Large amount of Japanese troops began to cross the Strait of Johor using motorboats and rubber boats after midnight as the Causeway link to Singapore has been bombed by the British after they retreated to Singapore after the defeat of Malaya. They landed in the northwest coast of Singapore. The Japanese met fierce opposition upon landing but they managed to push back the defenders.

11 February 1942, The Japanese reached Bukit Timah. The fiercest fighting took place here. The Chinese volunteers, together with the Allied soldiers, fought bravely. Many on both sides were killed.

I was just a Chinese immigrant from China. I came to Singapore just to earn some living and send some money back to my family in China. Life in the pass was tough as we do rough labours and we need to do it from day to night as thats our expected requirement. But one day, a event happened that changed my life forever.

In 8 February 1942, The Japanese started their attacks in Singapore after a weeks wait in Johor Bahru. They started firing with their artillery guns along the Strait of Johor.
